All things considered, flyting in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is actually fairly simple. You just need to keep a few things in mind when you’re challenging your foes to an insulting verse.
How Do I Initiate a Flyting Challenge?
Like nearly everything in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, there’s an icon for flyting. A flyting challenge will initially appear as a blue dot on your map (the indicator for “Mystery”) until you get close enough to find out what the activity is.
Once you are close enough to a flyting challenge, the blue Mystery icon will turn into a blue theater mask. You can see it on the compass bar at the top of the screenshot above.
Don’t confuse the blue mask with the white mask icon. The white mask icon points you towards Roman Artifacts.
Most flyting challenges are found in cities and camps, as this type of thing usually attracts an audience. Simply approach the person the icon is pointing you towards and speak with them to start the challenge.
How to Flyt
Once you’ve started a flyting challenge with someone and put down your wager, they’ll speak a line or two (usually an insult towards you or a boast about themselves). You’ll then be given a few dialogue options.
There is usually one “winning” option, one “decent” option, and one “poor” option. There are three rules you’ll want to follow to choose the best option, and they generally rank in this importance:
You’ll want your line to rhyme with the last thing your opponent said. This can usually eliminate one option right off the bat. You’ll want your line to match the length and flow of your opponent’s. For example, if your opponent’s lines are short and rapid-fire, your lines will need to be short and rapid-fire. If the lines are drawn out and use lots of big words, try to pick a response that does the same. Try to mold your response so it’s actually a response. If your opponent is talking about how great they are in bed, you probably won’t want a response about cutting off their head (even though it rhymes).
You will have some time when crafting each response; listen to your opponent speak, then read each line you could choose in your head, or even say it out loud.
You’ll start to figure out Eivor’s speaking cadence after you’ve done a few of these as well. Before long, you’ll be dissing Anglo-Saxons up and down the territories of England. All will tremble before your barbed tongue!
Why Flyt?
Winning a flyting challenge will tick a “Mystery” off of your region checklist and net you some experience.
The most important factor, however, is that every flyt you win will increase your charisma stat. This will give you special dialogue options throughout the game and give you unique ways to complete quests. Flyting is the only way to increase Charisma, and it makes for some really fun dialogue options.
When speaking with someone, you’ll see the same mask icon next to a dialogue option if your charisma is high enough to use it.
