The move was announced late last week as part of ASUS’s plan to focus on creators with its new laptops. While we traditionally see OLED technology on TVs (with quite the battle between OLED vs QLED (opens in new tab) technology going on), an OLED display could make a huge difference to your workflow while on the move. Typically, OLED offer deeper blacks levels, vastly superior contrast, and more responsiveness too. Just the kind of technology we’d love to see in the best laptops (opens in new tab) then. While some high-end laptops already offer OLED screens, ASUS is adding them to its mid-range notebooks such as the VivoBook Pro 14X and 16X. It’s also offering the first 16-inch 4K OLED HDR screens on numerous models including the ProArt Studiobook Pro, ProArt Studiobook and the Vivobook Pro. To further entice everyone in, the StudioBook Pro 16 OLED should be quite the powerhouse. Starting at $2,500, it will be powered by H-series Ryzen 5000 processors or 3rd-gen Intel Xeon chips depending on your preference, with Nvidia’s professional grade RTX A2000 and A5000 GPUs in the offerings too. Alternatively, there’s the StudioBook 16 OLED which starts at $2,000 and has the same Ryzen processors, but Intel Core i7 processors and either the RTX 3070 or 3060 graphics card. Besides offering OLED screens that reach up to 550 nits, they will also have ASUS Dial, a new rotary accessory located at the top of the trackpad for added functionality. There’s also the ZenBook Pro Duo 15 OLED which is a dual-screen notebook and offers up to RTX 3070 graphics and a core i9 processor. There’s also the single-screen ZenBook Pro 15 OLED which starts at $1,470.
Asus OLED for everyone
Further down the line is the Vivobook Pro 14X and 16X OLED at $1,400. Similar specs are available in a reasonably lightweight build of 3.09 pounds and 3.64 pounds respectively. In all cases, the new notebooks are expected to launch sometime near the end of the year in North America. Each could shake things up quite a bit and potentially make OLED more of a standard option for laptops in future, and we’re not just talking about the high-end ranges either.
